CHRISTMAS CONCERT TOMORROW!

Well, tomorrow marks the end of the first half of our Awana year. We'll end it in style with our annual Christmas concert. There are alot of great performances planned, getting us all into the Christmas spirit (if you aren't already!).
Parents, please have your children at the chapel by 6:15pm. The concert will begin as soon as every clubber has arrived, which we are hoping is 6:30pm. The concert should last one hour with snacks and refreshments afterward in the gym.
It has been great watching the clubbers rehearse their songs and plays and I know it will be a blessing to you all. Invite everyone you know to come out and enjoy the sights and sounds of this precious time of year where we celebrate the birth of our Savior.
We will also be announcing the weight total of our food drive for this year....so be prepared for that as well.
See you tomorrow night!

PARADE TOMORROW

LAST YEARS GROUP AT THE PARADE
The gang from Ridgeville Bible chapel and it's Awana club is marching tomorrow in the Pelham Christmas parade. If you have sent in your permission slips, thank you. If you haven't yet, no worries, I will have a number on hand at the parade for you to sign. We are really excited and if you haven't participated in the past, it is a wonderful experience. For those of you who have been involved in the past, you know the great fun we have!
Please be at Christian Reform Church on Balfor St. no later than 12:15pm. The street will be blocked off, so a leader will be waiting for clubbers to lead them to our group. Cubbies are expected to be accompanied by their parents. And we will have a van pulling a trailer for anyone who gets tired.
Pick up for all clubbers will be at Centennial park, where there are a number of activites for families to participate in afterwards, as well as refreshments.
So see you all tomorrow, rain or shine (or snow, but I highly doubt that!)

Store is open!!

We have another busy night at club. Not only do we have our Christmas concert rehearsals tonight, which I hope you are all ready for, but the Awana store will be open as well.
As for the concert, this is the last night of practice before our big performance next week for our families. Afterwards, there will be snacks and refreshments provided, so please plan on staying. Invite all your parents and any one else you would want to bring. We also will announce the amount of weight in food we have put together for our food drive! You can still bring in food, tonight is the last night though.
As for the store, bring your coupons and see if there is anything you want to buy. Or better yet, save up your coupons and buy something big next time.
See you all tonight!

Christmas concert rehersals

We begin our formal Christmas concert rehersals tonight for all of the clubs at Awana. Come prepared if you already have your lines/songs to memorize. Next week, each of the clubs will have time scheduled to practice on the stage upstairs in the sanctuary.
Other than that it's just a regular night.....and I'm looking forward to being back at our club.
See you guys tonight!

BACKWARDS NIGHT TONIGHT

Tonight is backwards night. Come to club dressed backwards for extra Awana coupons. It's a bit silly, but it's a nice way to shake things up.
I saw that the hamper is starting to fill up nicely....well done clubbers, but we still have a way to go. Remember that whatever we do to the least of these, we do unto Christ Himself.
The Christmas concert is quickly approaching......memorize whatever you have to in order to be prepared. And of course, work on your handbooks.......and understand what you are learning, it's food for the soul.
I'm still away on club visits, so I'll see you all in two more weeks.
Blessings

Great time at Heroes!

THE DEDICATED CAST OF HEROES UNMASKED
What a great time at Heroes Unmasked this past Tuesday! Wheather it was throwing marshmellows at Goliath's head, or taking a tour of the empty tomb, great fun was had by all! We counted 88 kids pass through our doors to enjoy the festivities. Along with their parents, kids got to enjoy all the games and watch the candy flow. It was exhausting for our leaders, but well worth the effort as we seek to serve the LORD and serve our community. LORD willing, we all will gather together in the world of Heroes Unmasked next October 30th. Make sure you check out the YouTube video of the event at the bottom of this page.
Now back to our regularly scheduled programming. After a busy week of preparing and showcasing Heroes, it will be a regular night of Awana at Ridgeville. There will be new colored teams, so be prepared clubbers, to be switched up and make some new friends.
Start collecting those Awana coupons as the store will be open again in 4 weeks.
AND DON'T FORGET THE AWANA FOOD HAMPER WE'RE PUTTING TOGETHER. It's starting to feel a little heavier, but no way is it as heavy as myself. And that's the goal, 221 lbs. We'll see the results at the Christmas concert.
Speaking of the Christmas concert, you no doubt have noticed clubbers, that we are well on our way in practicing our carols and skits (at least I hope my directors have begun). As of now our Christmas concert is only 35 days away! (And Christmas is only 49 days away!!!!)
I'll be away on some club visits for the next while, so I'll see you all soon!

COUNTDOWN TO HEROES UNMASKED

This coming Tuesday marks the long awaited return of our annual fall carnival, HEROES UNMASKED!
There will be no Awana club, but everyone is invited out to enjoy the carnival style games, fun, face painting, snacks, candy, see the empty tomb of Jesus and meet the heroes of the Bible! It's fun for all ages! Throw marshmellows at Goliath's head, fire off finger rockets at the lions in "Daniel's lion den", save Noah's animals from the flood, putt through "Moses Red Sea mini-putt", meet Queen Esther and have her paint your face at the face painting booth, and throw ammo at the bad guys in the "Bad Guys Gallery".
And of course there is lots of candy waiting to be handed out to the winners of the games. But make sure you don't miss the highlight of the carnival, "the empty tomb of Christ". The gravekeeper would love to take you on a tour of the graveyard and show you the one tomb that now sits empty!
See you all this Tuesday.
Doors open at 6:30 pm. Parents are responsible for their own children.
Regular club will return November 6th.

LIGHTS OUT NIGHT

It's lights out at club this Tuesday. The lights will be out throughout the building, with a few exceptions of course (like the bathroom!). So come prepared with your flashlights and lighter colored clothing.
It's also the first week the Awana store will be open! Bring your Awana coupons to club and purchase some really cool things. Remember, you don't have to spend any of your coupons if you don't want to. Save up and see what you could buy later in the year at the more expensive tables.
And don't forget the Awana Christmas hamper we are putting togther. The goal is 221 lbs, so bring out non persihable food and throw it in the hamper at registration.
See you tomorrow night.

Launching the Awana Food Fundraiser

I have challenged the club at Ridgeville Bible Chapel to raise my weight in food to donate to Open Arms Mission in Welland. I thought it would be a neat way to show our clubbers the needs of the community and empower them to help. After all, Jesus challenges us to care and love others as we love ourselves. And what better way to instill this message into our clubbers than by ministering to those who are in need at Christmas time. So for the next 9 club nights, beginning tomorrow and ending at the Awana Christmas Concert on December 11th, we will be collecting non-perishable food items in order to meet the weight challenge of what I weigh. The goal is 221 lbs. I would love to smash that weight challenge! So clubbers and parents, bring in your food donations and let's share the love of Christ with the world, starting in our own backyard. The total amount of weight in food will be announced at the Christmas concert.

We are two weeks away from the much anticipated return of our Fall Carnival at Ridgeville Bible Chapel, HEROES UNMASKED! It has been 2 years since we ran the last carnival, but now is the time to bring it back. So we are busy preparing all the games, decorations and getting candy gathered for what should be an exciting and unforgettable night. Meet King David, challenge Goliath, putt your way through Moses' Red Sea challenge and see the empty tomb of Jesus! So be ready for October 30th.......it's gonna be a blast!

JERSEY AND SPORT TEAM NIGHT

After an eventful and busy Parents night (which saw alot of parents out!) we return to a normal club night with some exceptions. This Tuesday October 9th is "Jersey and sport team" night for the Sparks, T&T and Treks, while the Cubbies enjoy Show and Tell time.
The "Blue and Gold" one is best!!!!
For those participating in "Jersey and sport team" night, simply wear your favorite sports jersey from the NHL, CFL, NFL, NBA or your own team that you play for! If you don't have a jersey, just wear a shirt or sweater with their crest on it for some bonus Awana shares! Cubbies, bring your favorite thing to show and tell.
See you all at club tomorrow and Happy Thanksgiving!

PARENTS NIGHT TONIGHT!

Parents, you are our special guests tonight as we show off a little of what we do here at club. We begin at 6:30 pm, but please come early and check out what your kids are up to on Tuesday nights. Shadow your child as they sing and study there way thought the night. And of course cheer them on during game time. Each director will present a short info session outlining what we offer here at Awana and how you can help your child be successful.
Refreshments and snacks will be available through out the night.
See you tonight!

Team color night!

This week sees the club donning it's favorite colors for Team Color Night.
Red, blue, green and yellow will again be on full display at Ridgeville Bible Chapel. These four famous Awana colors found their origin in a unique way.
Art Roreheim, one of the co-founders of Awana, needed to seperate his club's teams into an organized way. He journeyed to the basement of his home church to find anything that could differentiate the teams he had formed for game time. He found an old chest and decided to take a look inside, hoping there would be something he could use. He found four sets of "pinnies", in the colors of red, blue, green and yellow. And the colors have stuck since.
This week, dress up in as many pieces of clothing that match your team color line and the team with the most will recieve an extra Awana coupon toward the store in 4 weeks.

Awana tongiht

Our second club night of the year is on tonight! We begin at 6:30 pm, but as always, show up about 15 minutes early and spend some time in the new gym!
Bring some friends, and parents are always welcome to see what's going on. Clubbers, please don't forget your handbooks and uniforms if you have them.
See you in a few hours!
And take note of the Commander's challenge to the left of the screen, complete it for a chance to recieve some extra Awana coupons toward the Awana store.

AWESOME YEAR BEGINS!

Awana at Ridgeville Bible chapel began with a bang! The line up for registration was out the door! Praise God!
What a great night! We of course ran behind, a regular occurance on the first night of the year, but next week we should be running on our regular schedule.
The leaders and directors were impressed with the clubbers and we had a great time in lesson and game time. With the new renovated gym, we were actually able to hear people talking....what a difference some new sound pannels can make.
As for next week clubbers, there's always room for more. Bring a friend or two to Awana. And don't forget your handbooks and uniforms. If you don't have a uniform, you're probably still working through your "Start Zone" or "Flight 3:16". But once you finish those intro manuals, you'll recieve your uniform and handbook.
See you all next week. And I hope we'll have those new basketball hoops up and ready to go.
Make sure you check out the Commander's challenge for a chance to win some extra Awana coupons. The store will be opening in a few weeks.
See you next Tuesday!!!

See you in a few hours!

Less than one week to Awana!

It's less than one week to our first club night at Ridgeville! Can't wait to see all the clubbers again and have great times singing, playing games and memorizing God's word together.
Don't forget to get to the chapel early for registration on the 11th!
See you then!
And check out the Awana calendar page, all of this years crazy and wacky theme nights are ready to go!

Monday, August 27, 2012

AWANA BEGINS IN TWO WEEKS

Awana at Ridgeville Bible Chapel begins in two short weeks. Hope all you clubbers and parents are ready, because we are. When you arrive, don't be suprised if you don't reconize the place. Over the summer, a number of large scale renovations have been done to our kitchen and more specifically the gym. You won't even reconize it! We added new sound barriers, changed the color scheem from the famous 70's reto to a more contemporary style and added new moveable basketball hoops which can be stored in the case of a function.
So things are getting set......get those handbooks and uniforms dusted off and see you soon!

Awana begins on September 11th at 6:30pm. Bring out new friends who can also join the fun.....and look for our ad in the Voice of Pelham over the next two weeks and point it out to anyone who is looking for a great time of games, Bible study, fun lessons and singing on Tuesday nights.

Recovering from the MCMAC Chinese conference

Now I know what Goliath felt like. The August long weekend saw the family and I ministering to a group of Chinese Chrstians from Mississauga at Brock University. As one of my Awana churches, I've had the privilidge of ministering to them in the past and have formed a great friendship with their Pastor and church family over the past year. That's why it was a great privilidge, when asked, to minister to their children and adults. The topics I taught on ranged from the Armor of God (specifically the Shield of Faith), to facing the most difficult of challenges (David and Goliath), to the true gift of Christmas.
HAD TO RISE TO THE CHALLENGE OF LEADING SONG TIME FOR THE CHILDREN'S PROGRAM. FOR ANY WHO KNOW HOW BAD I SING, YHOU UNDERSTAND!
FORGET WHERE'S WALDO, WHERE'S BOBBY? HERE'S A HINT, HE'S THE ONLY CAUCASION IN THE PICTURE!

Now it's time to recover before heading to Oakville to do some Awana missionary traning. Special thanks to Hopedale Bible Chapel for lending us their building for this weekend.

And as always, we are planning the year ahead at our own club at Ridgeville. Looking forward to some productive weeks of planning.

THE DOG DAYS OF SUMMER

It certainly has been a hot summer so far! I've had to water my garden almost everyday, as I'm sure many of you have. Had a chance to go to Safari Niagara with the kids a few times, enjoying the splash pad on a number of occasions.
As for the Awana year coming up, I'm busy preparing not only our club at Ridgeville Bible Chapel, but planning out what will undoublty be a busy year in the Golden Horseshoe area. I have a Bible camp that I'm looking after the weekend of August 3-6th, then onto more missionary training the following weekend, planning a possible golf tournment for Awana dads and leaders, a fundraising banquet for our missionary work and the big Awana conference coming up!
As well as the normal speaking on Sundays. So it's going to be a busy couple of weeks!
I hope everyone is having a blessed and relaxing summer and I'm looking forward to seeing you all at club in a short few weeks!

GREAT TIME AT SPARKS CAMP!

Elysa, Jacob and I had a great time at Sparks camp despite the rain. We got to meet new friends, do some awesome crafts and the rain even let up enough for us to get outside and play some games.
Special thanks to John Froom for all the hard work in planning the event. Remember, next year if you finish all your handbooks and recieve a Sparky award, you qualify for Sparks camp.

Sparkies camp this coming Saturday

This coming Saturday is the yearly Sparkies camp hosted by Awana Ontario's missionary team. Sparkies that have completed all three of their handbooks qualify for a day of great fun and excitement! I'll be there with all the Sparkies from South Western Ontario, soaking up all the fun. Two of our own clubbers from Ridgeville have qualified to be there....way to go guys! I'll see you Saturday.
As for the summer months, keep checking back on the blog to see what's happening as we prepare for next Awana club year, where I'll be, and what's happening with Awana International Canada.
I hope everyone is doing great and enjoying the nice weather....I know I have....gone golfing a couple of times, and only lost like 15 golf balls......pretty good for me!
Missing all you clubbers.........know that we are praying for you and your families regularly.

ANOTHER GREAT YEAR

Another Awana year has come and gone....and it was a great year. It was a privilidge to be the club's commander and I know it was great serving with all the directors and leaders. They all sacrifice alot to serve in their various positions and I want to publically thank them.
As for the year who can forget the highlights, like crazy hat and crazy hair night, the Christmas concert, lights out night, Joanne setting up dangling donuts for the clubbers to eat, the Grand Prix and of course the great work that the clubbers put in finishing their handbooks. I will definetly miss all you clubbers and parents over the summer, but don't be strangers to Ridgeville, if you don't have a home church, come by anytime to worship the LORD with us.

And finally, here is the year end video for posterity........enjoy everyone and remember to apply what you learned at club, and be a light for Jesus where you are.

We are at the end of the Awana year already. It has been another great year with the clubbers and leaders. And last but not least, our annual awards and dinner is next Tuesday at 6pm with the awards program to follow. Parents please plan to attend as we reward our clubbers for all the hard work they have done this past year.

LEADERS VS. CLUBBERS THIS WEEK

Mrs. Laura has been in training since last year's devasting defeat to the clubbers
This is it....the annual leaders vs. clubbers throw down of the year! Leaders will face off against the clubbers in some traditional Awana games. I know that the leaders have been shaking off the bitterly close loss they suffered last year. Parents as always are invited to stick around and enjoy the last club night of the year before next week's awards banquet.
I'm looking forward to seeing how the leaders do (although I find myself cheering for the clubbers.....sorry leaders).
May God's blessings be with you this week as we focus on the cross and what Jesus did for us.
And don't forget our Good Friday Brunch at 10 AM this Friday. The food is always great and we would love to see you there.

Thursday, March 29, 2012

PIZZA AND MOVIE NIGHT POSTPONNED

For the winning teams....pizza and movie night will not be happening this Friday. I have a missionary visit to a club in Mississauga this Friday and can't change the date. I will keep you updated for the next possible date......I'm really hoping to do it some time next week.
Next Friday is Good Friday and we at Ridgeville would like to invite everyone out to our Brunch at 10 AM where we will enjoy some great food and fellowship as we remember the great sacrifice of the Lord Jesus on the cross for us. Please plan to attend if you are able, it is always a fun and rewarding time.

Beautiful skies, birds singing in the air, and the grass is turning a beautiful shade of green.....and it's only March!
Wow, it looks like the end to the winter that never was....and I for one am excited....went golfing already and had to brag to my friends back in Winnipeg.....though I was humble in doing so....;)
Tonight is a regular club night after a refreshing spring break. We're in the home stretch to the awards banquet so finish up your handbooks and we'll have the awards ready for those of you who do.
See you all tonight!

Wednesday, March 7, 2012

And away we go....

What a great day! Beautiful sunshine and wonderful company at home.
Enjoy spring break guys, we'll see you in two weeks when we kick up the end stretch of club. Last night was a great club night and a special shout out to Emma who completed her first handbook and 5 sections of her Frequent Flyer bonus handbook.
As for me, I'm off to speak at a Grand Prix in St. Catharines tonight. Pray that I will communicate the powerful message of the Gospel clearly and with urgency to those who are perishing.
God bless everyone and see you soon.

TREK MOVIE NIGHT TONITE

Attention all Treks, tonight is your night at the chapel. Pizza and a movie on the big screen starting at 6 pm. We'll see you tonight and bring your appetites. We'll be watching "One night with the King" which tells the events of Queen Esther's life and how she saved the Isrealites from the treacherous plans of Haman who sought to destroy them all because of a years long blood feud between Israel and his people.
Parents, pick up is 8 pm, see you then.

Thursday, February 16, 2012

Movie and pizza this Friday

Congrats to the Blue and Green teams for winning this past quarter. A special shout out to the Blue team who scored a over a whopping 33,000 points, a club record! I'll see all you guys this Friday for a movie at 6pm, and supper of course is provided. And parents are encouraged to join us.
On a personal note, I have finally been inspired to build my Grand Prix car....it's a design that I think a number of boys may really like (especially Dalton)......it has to do with a galaxy far, far away.......

Steal a Heart night

Happy Valentine's day to all those romantics out there. Here at Awana tonight we celebrate love with the annual Steal a heart night. Clubbers come prepared to hold onto your heart, since eveyone will be trying to steal it if you utter one of the forbidden words! And don't foget to wear some red, just for fun.
Tonight we will be looking at love from God's prespective as opposed to the world's idea of what love should be. Afterall, why not go to the Expert on love for it's definition, since "God is love" (1John 4:8,16).
See you all tonight....and I heard a rumor that there are treats!!!!

Wednesday, February 8, 2012

Grand Prix info update

The Grand Prix info page has been updated with all things Grand Prix. If you have any questions, check out the Grand Prix info tab for the answers. If you still don't find what you're looking for, talk to Commander Bobby.
The new Commander's Challenge has also been posted for this week. Check it out! And I'll be back at club next week!

Thursday, February 2, 2012

NEW COMMANDERS CHALLENGE HAS BEEN POSTED!

I heard there was a number of clubbers who knew the Commanders Challenge last week. WELL DONE! I have just posted the new challenges on the page. Research the answer if you don't know it and tell Mrs. Kim next club night.
See you guys around....

SUMMER FUN NIGHT

WHICH WAY TO THE BEACH?
January 31st sees the club rip off the bonds of cold weather and defy the elements with our annual Summer Fun Night. But don't worry, we'll be inside our warm and heated building. Please make sure you have some summer attire underneath those winter clothes (and don't forget that sunscreen on the nose challenge). We'll have some fun summery type games to remind us of how close we are to Spring.
Grand Prix cars are for sale for $3 a set. Parents are welcome to create a car to race in the Leader/Parents category.
I will not be around tomorrow night, I will be at a club visit in Oakville, so if any clubber has the answer to the Commanders Challenge, please tell Mrs.Kim when you register at the door.
Have fun guys!

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

IT'S COMING....THE GRAND PRIX!

Tonight at Awana, we will begin selling Grand Prix cars for $3 a set. Remember that a new car must be made in order to qualify for the races this year. You can check the calendar on this blog for the exact date of the races.
Also, remember the Commanders Challenge on the left side of this webpage. So far, the blue team has completed the challenge twice and gained a foothold on the lead in points by over 2000 points. The challenge is worth a 1000 points per team. There is one for the Sparks and one for the T&T. Enjoy!
We also want to welcome back Mr. Al to T&T, Diana to Trek and Joanne to the Games after they enjoyed a brief vacation...welcome back.
Tonight is also our missionary visit from....well....ummm....me. Since I am the Awana missionary for the Golden Horseshoe, it's Ridgeville's turn to have a visit from me....though I guess it won't be too different than usual. But I will be sharing about my work with Awana and the other 21 clubs I oversee.
See you all tonight!!!

Tuesday, January 17, 2012

ANOTHER EXCITING NIGHT OF AWANA TONIGHT!

Clubbers, come prepared to rattle off some verses! Understand what they mean though, since that's the whole point of Awana....that you guys come to know, love and serve the LORD Jesus,a nd what better way than by His Word!
Also, Clayton got 1000 points for his team last week because he knew the answer to the Commander's Challenge. Some of you other teams sure could use those points. Take a look at it and find the answer and tell it to me (Commander Bobby in case you were wondering) privately (after all you don't want to give the answer away to another team).
I'll see you all tonight, and remember to bring proper footwear for the gym.....like runners, sneakers, gym shoes or whatever they're called today.

Tuesday, January 10, 2012
